Jackie and Cochrane Centre Pilates changed my life! After many years of working in a high stress sedimentary career, I knew that I must become more active, all the while I was beginning to have significant issues with osteoarthritis in my hips which were compounded by lower back and shoulder issues. It was on the advice of my doctor that I tried Pilates, as it allows you to exercise without full weight bearing and can be modified for people with all different issues. I immediately felt comfortable in the studio, and Jackie and Jody were incredibly knowledgeable and supportive from day one.

The private sessions are wonderful as you work through and expand your own limits over time. The classes are small enough that you still feel as if the instructors are able to give enough support to all participants. Notwithstanding that my hip issues became much worse in the last year, we were able to continue to work to strengthen, lengthen and improve my quality of life, all the while dealing with decreased range of motion. I did my last Pilates session 3 days before my hip replacement, and hope to be back doing Pilates within 6 weeks of my surgery.

Life is a journey and Pilates has become integral to mine, I am as I write almost 4 weeks post bionic hip, and I know and have had comments from many of the medical personnel and physiotherapists about how strong I am and how quick my recovery has been and I know it is as a result of my work with Jackie over the last 18 months. Pilates will continue to be a huge part of my life; I recommend Jackie and the others at Cochrane Centre Pilates more than I can express. I wish I had found Pilates earlier in life, but I know it will be a big part of my life going forward.

Pilates is truly one of the secrets to staying young. After starting twice weekly sessions with Jackie at Centre Pilates 4 years ago, I feel over 10 years younger than when I started. There is nothing quite like easily getting on and off the floor to play with my 2 year old grandson! The expert, encouraging, non judgemental and personal instruction is what has inspired me to achieve these results and even do Pilates at home 2 or 3 times a week on my own. I encourage people to give Pilates a try with one of the great instructors at Centre Pilates.

My physiotherapist recommended I take Pilates to strengthen my core after injuring my lower back with the pain ultimately travelling up into my shoulders and neck area leaving me with an uncomfortable stiffness and pulling my shoulders up to my ears. After one complimentary session on the Reformer, I immediately committed to a weekly rehab class and have since increased my class sessions to 4 times per week. The Reformer and Spring-Wall classes not only provide a challenging workout, but they are an excellent way to learn how to create the length, strength, and flexibility in your muscles that you forgot you had!

I started Pilates while having a bad injury with a lot of scar tissue, being constantly in pain. It was tough, really more a chore for me than a fun way to spend time, but I wanted to improve my health and no longer be in pain. I knew it would take time to heal and improve. All the teachers helped me along the way, they were nice yet challenged me. I especially love my classes with Jackie, she’s so motivational, and inspiring, she makes laugh and try harder. Somewhere along my way, pilates stopped being a chore and I somehow fell in love with it.
